2023 vintage (bottled in 12/2023; bottle no. 184/295); consumed on 10/9/2024
Pours a deep, jet-brown hue capped with a finger of dark khaki foam; decent head retention leaves a vague, paper-thin cap, large, creamy collar, and minimal webs of lacing holding to the walls of the glass.
Aromas waft fresh milk chocolate brownie against wafts of dusty rickhouse, leaving tones of toasted malt lingering into a flowing undercurrent of burnt sugar accents as oaky bourbon subtleties take hold.
Taste offers crème brûlée, rich vanilla, and dark chocolate swirls into creamy caramel past the mid-palate as enhanced notes of toasted oak and bourbon build and linger past the swallow.
Mouthfeel shows a medium body and a gentle prickle of modest carbonation, with soft barrel roast meeting subdued slickness and a building, creamy overtone into the back end, leaving a lowkey, airy exhale.
Detailed malt saturation enriched with ample, fresh whiskey overtones; uniquely evocative impressions provide indulgent layers for a non-adjunct stout in a promising, young barrel program from Gnosis.
