Clear dark red-amber brew with plenty of foam. Aroma of grain with a cardboard nose. Dark grainy taste like a Rye beer without the spice. Some vegetal flavors and a stewed hop finish. Overall this seems a little coarse in flavor. Still, it's quite drinkable but leaves an unpleasant bitter aftertaste for so "light" a brew. From the 16 oz can purchased at San Diego Wine & Beer Co. Dated 02/13/24, so nearly a year old and that may contribute to the less than enthusiastic review.

First beer from this style. Awesome can art. $4.99 for 16 oz can.
A&S: The beer is a very dark amber color. Lively carbonation. The head is tan and pours about a finger with good retention and some streaks of lacing. The aroma doesn't really exist initially, when it warms some toasty bread, with slight caramel tones, and yeast.
T&M: Caramel tones, nut, some slight spice. Earthy hop bitterness bite at the end. Dry finish, very clean. Carbonation is sharp. lively, tinglely, and poppy. The body is medium.
Overall: I thought it was solid, but nothing spectacular. Probably another good example of a style that won't ever appear in the top 250 no matter how spot-on it is.
