Poured from a freshly filled crowler (on nitro) into a stout glass at 58°. It pours a dark mahogany with cola hues at the bottom of the glass. The mocha-colored head fizzled away immediately which is disappointing. Its fragrant smell includes roasted malt, freshly-brewed coffee, chocolate, caramel, nuts, and a whiff of black cherry and rum. The taste is far more bitter than the smell indicates. There is burnt coffee, bakers chocolate, and earthy, nutty char, along with notes of dark fruit and a hint of rum. The fruit is slightly sour. For an 8.6% ABV Stout, the mouth feel is rather thin. Perhaps the crowler wasn't properly filled but something is just plain off here.
