A boxcar full of rich semi-sweet malt and floral hops. Crisp and dry finish.

On draught at the brewery. Served in a tulip glass. It pours a crystal clear, dark amber with a thin, ecru-colored head and minimal lacing. The nose offers nutty, earthy caramel with a whiff of cola and spice. Its taste is very dry and earthy with burnt nuts and heavily toasted brown bread. The caramel malt becomes more noticeable as it warms in the glass but it adds negligible balancing sweetness. There is also a hint of bakers chocolate and the finish is quite bitter for the style. This Märzen is crisp and clean with an appropriate level of carbonation and the 5.4% ABV is just right. Overall, while Carnival of Sorts is the antidote to a sweeter Märzen with excessive caramel, it could use a little more balance.
