A strong and rich dark ale with malt flavors of toasted caramel bread. Hoppy and slightly warming finish.

On draught at the brewery. Served in a snulip glass. It is very dark ruby in color with with a small, ecru cap that faded into a thin ring around the glass. The smell includes black cherry, earthy malt, and a whiff of tobacco smoke. The taste follows although there is considerable bitterness. The black cherry is tart rather than sweet and the underlying malt is burnt and earthy. This ale has a good, full mouth feel with moderate carbonation, and the 9% ABV is noticeable. Overall, I really like the idea of this ale. It is well-conceived. I just wish the fruit played more against the earthy bitterness. Nonetheless I hope Double Tap makes it a seasonal offering.
