Rich and complex, with bready and grainy malt. A touch of caramel sweetness and dimension. Finishes long and warm.

13 oz. pour at the brewery. Served in a snulip glass. It is dark iced tea in color with a half finger cap of creamy, ecru foam and thick lacing with excellent retention. A very attractive pour. The smell is a bit subdued; mostly sweet malt. The taste exceeded my expectation: it opens with bready malt and sweet caramel and vanilla notes but there is big, earthy char bitterness at mid-palate, which nicely balances the initial sweetness. In fact, it is very well-balanced. Its mouth feel is spot on: creamy with moderate carbonation, and the 10.2% ABV is surprisingly warming. Overall, Demeter's Revenge is an impressive offering. It is well-crafted and the balancing bitterness makes it special. It is big, substantive Strong Ale that is worth a try. And kudos to Double Tap for devoting the time and resources to brewing this rather obscure but enjoyable style.
