Misc.: Quick review

Went over to Coin Haus to use up a $25 Groupon that I probably wasn’t going to be able to use before I went on vacation. Would be quick reviews all night with small pours, breaking my semi-rule of no reviews under six ounces. Untappd called it a, “Winter seasonal stout brewed with San Diego sea urchin uni, lactose and sea salt - served on nitro.” Had it once before, giving a taster a 4.00 on Feb. 18, 2017.

Poured a pitch black color with 3-to-4 fingers of khaki tan rocky head. Just a few bubbles that I could see underneath the top. Outstanding spotty lacing. Almost perfect retention. (Sight - 4.50)

Smelled milk chocolate, cocoa, chocolate milk, vanilla, salt and dark fruit. (Smell - 4.25)

Taste was not as good as the nose. Got milk chocolate, cocoa, dry dark chocolate, vanilla, chocolate milk, salt, red apple and dark fruit. (Taste - 3.75)

Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Dry bitter finish. (Feel - 4.00)

Not quite as good as I remember it, but still outstanding overall. Very complex. (Overall - 4.00)

This is supposed to be brewed with sea salt, sea urchin roe, and lactose. Aroma of roasted grain. Quite dark in the usual Stout fashion with only a modest foam in the snifter. It starts out like a standard Stout but gradually turns more peculiar and complex. It's not sweet, despite the sugar, nor is it noticeably salty.

Flavors of charred malt with a hint of caramel. Hints of something from the sea on the lips. Winey finish. I'm not sure the world is ready for this "Uni-que" concoction. On tap at the Pariah tasting room.
