Munich-style Helles brewed with doughy German pilsner malt and Czech Saaz hops. Created on International Women's Collaboration Brew Day in honor of a ridiculously cute, but perpetual trouble maker, of a cat named Salem.

Spot on Helles lager. Excellent balance of malt sweetness with just a touch of hops to make it not a sweet beer, as it should be. Good amount of body for the ABV/Style. Love it. Enjoyed at their Baltimore brewery.

Type: 32-oz. crowler
Reviewed as: Munich Helles Lager
Glass: Burgeon .5L pilsner glass
Price: $11.00
From: Pariah Brewing Company in North Park (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: March 20, 2021
Consumed: March 20, 2021
Misc.: Crowled on March 20, 2021
Took a crowler home of this after having a half pour. First had this on July 12, 2018, giving a taster of it a 3.50 on Untappd and writing “Compete disclosure that I do not generally enjoy this style (except you Firestone Lager), but this is good for the style.” Then today (March 20, 2021) I gave a taster a 4.00 and wrote “I didn’t like this beer style the last time I had it in July 2018. Now it’s in my Mt. Rushmore. Outstanding. Half pour.” Untappd description was “Munich-style Helles brewed with doughy German pilsner malt and Czech Saaz hops. Created on #iwcbd in honor of a ridiculously cute, but perpetual trouble maker, of a cat named Salem.”
Poured a light-to-medium amber clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy white head. Lots of slow-moving bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Excellent watery lacing. Average watery retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled skunk, grass, corn cereal, spicy Czech Saaz, white pepper and hints of apple. Even better out of the can. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted almost as good as the nose. Got grass, corn cereal, spicy Czech Saaz, white pepper, skunk, and hints of apple and pear. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Long, clean, crisp finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Every time I have this it gets better. This is excellent. (Overall - 4.25)

Pours a clear golden amber with a few rings of foam in the tall Rodenbach goblet. Watery body. Bready taste with corn and some malty sweetness. Even a buttery note. The hops are quite distinctive and Euro tasting, even to the slightly skunky nose.
This tastes more like a Pilsner than the typical Helles brews I've tasted. Moderate but pronounced bitter aftertaste. Overall it is quite a decent and quaffable German-tasting brew, though longer-lasting carbonation would improve the effect. From the 16 oz can dated (thank you) 04/26/19 on the bottom.
