12 ounce bottle. Edgar Lager pours out a clear amber color with an attractive head. The butterscotch and fruit aroma is not all together pleasant. The flavor is very fruity. I'm surprised this is a lager. Sweet caramel and buttery. Not very malty. Some nutty flavors come in a the middle. The finish has little going. I can taste no hop flavor at all. Immediately forgettable flavor. Perhaps that's a good thing. This beer is weak and somewhat nasty.

Served on tap at Fort Collins Brewery:
A- light amber color profile with a light head
S- light not intense smell, light hoppy smell
T- hoppy upfront but goes down quite nice, quite hoppy for a lager. Citrus tones with a bit of malt
M- Nice smooth finish, carbonation isn't too bad, but a bit more carbonated then I prefer
O- yet another quite average beer from Fort Collins Brewery

Had this one a week and a half ago on tap at the brewery in Fort Collins. Poured a nice clear copper color with a decent white head on top. Aromas of caramel, nuts, toasted grains and malt. Medium bodied on the palate, with flavors of toasted cereal, caramel and a pronounced maltiness.

A- A pretty orangish copper color. Solid grainy head sits contentedly on top. Quite lively through the glass.
S- Heavy caramel and biscuits malts. Slight musty odor. Very very faint hops, almost none discernible through the aroma. Toasty and bready, it's too much. Needs balance.
T- Interesting movement of flavors-- starts with toasted caramel malts, like the smell. Moves to a dry bitter mid-taste, almost dried fruit like, then ends on a relaxed but musty hops note. Slick and bitter aftertaste. The hops are present, but are too widely separated to create balance. The end result is a choppy beer. Unique tastes can be a good change up on a classic style, but that doesn't work out too well in this beer.
When I think of most lagers, I think crisp, clean and refreshing. Edgar is none of those.
M- More body than I'd like to find in a Vienna lager. Good carbonation levels, though.
D- Eh. Not something I'd like to have again.

A - Very clear, red, with a slight head
S - Slight malty aroma, with little hop nose.
T - Very watery tasting, slight malt, little hop flavor, okay bitternes.
M - Good mouth feel for a vienna, good carbonation.
This ia an okay beer, it is a clean fermentation, it is lacking malt flavors in the taste, but nose seems to be okay, and easy drinking beer.

A good vienna lager is hard to find and I think this misses the mark as well.Poured a clear lighter amber with a tight formed but pretty quick to fade white head, heavy handed caramel in the nose almost to the point of being like candy, now I know there should be some caramel sweetness in its malt profile but this was to much.Again the caramel is very strong up front on the palate and is sweet thruought until a noticeable earthiness comes through in an ubrupt finish.Ehh way to onesided in its caramel flavors just not very good in my mind.

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a frothy head that displays good retention and lacing - but looks can be deceiving
Smell: Grainy, slightly vegetal aroma
Taste: Grainy and vegetal notes provide the opening flavors; after the swallow, the husky bitterness continues to build to a slightly metallic finish
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation
Drinkability: Afraid I don't care much for this one at all

12oz brown bottle
Edgar Lager was amber in color with an off-white head. The head has good retention and leaves a little lacing. It had the aroma of sweet malt with a hint of toasted grain. The taste is sweet and malty with some toasted notes as well. The finish is slightly dry. It is medium in body and carbonation. It's not a bad beer, but I would not recommend it either.

Is there an Edgar in Vienna? Pours a amber color with some reddish-orange colors throughout. The foam is good with smaller sized bubbles and the retention and lacing lasted through the tasting.
The aroma has a grainy smell with some light malt backing. Touches of caramel and butterscotch are present. Some fruity hop aromas as well as a yeasty afterglow.
The taste is grainy with a unpleasant corn taste. The butterscotch, DMS taste is more pronounced and becomes more noticeable as the beer warms. Also there is a slight smokiness that I detect (but I notice that in a lot of Ft. Collins beers). The bitterness from the hops has a good earthy taste. The finish has a grainy a toffee finish as well as a bit of yeast bite.
The body and carbonation is good. Overall the taste is off for me. Too much corn-like taste and buttery flavors and yeast is a little too pronounced.

From a bottle labeled simply "Edgar Lager", this comes a reddish copper (to match the color of the label perhaps) with a bone white, rocky and fluffy head. The bouquet is fruity with a hint of cocoa and bread dough. The flavor is a light, yet perfect match between a malty, juiciness at the front of the tongue and a drying bitterness along the back. The transition from smooth to dry, malt to hops, sweet to bitter progresses so naturally, that the end result--a lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue--almost comes as a surprise.
The balance here is near perfect which creates a smooth mouthfeel and, of course, high drinkability. This is one of the best Marzen/Oktoberfest/Vienna lagers I've ever had the pleasure of trying.
Another great lager from Fort Collins Brewery. This one is worth seeking out.

Lightly hazed rustic orange with ember-like edges when backlit with bright morning sun. The orange-ecru cap is some kind of sticky, displaying numerous bridges of foam from its surface to the glass. The slow, steady carbonation assures that I'll be able to enjoy the head and lace throughout the entire bottle. I'm impressed so far.
The nose is no better than average and its earthiness reminds me, to some extent, of an Oktoberfest. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Munich malt is in use. There's a moderate toasted graininess, a non-specific fruitiness and a muted, musky noble hoppiness. Definite room for improvement.
The flavor is odd and off-putting, but I can't figure out what makes it so. The profile changes perceptibly from beginning to end. I prefer the finish, where hops, mild though they are, take over. What struck me as an average Vienna lager initially is now a below average Vienna lager as I continue to drink. Earthy, borderline vegetal flavors greet my taste buds and make me think of dirty tap lines. That's no mean feat since this is a bottled beer.
Sweet and bitter fight to a virtual draw, with sweet edging slightly ahead after beer entry and bitter edging slightly ahead after beer exit. In the end, I have no earthly idea whether the malt bill, the hop bill or the yeast strain is responsible for what I'm tasting. All I know is, I don't care for the result.
The mouthfeel is in the vicinity of appropriate for the style. I have no complaints about the carbonation either, it's pretty much spot-on for the task at hand. As always, it's difficult to divorce mouthfeel impressions from flavor impressions, especially when the flavor is less than good.
Fort Collins beer has recently started showing up in Iowa and I finally got curious enough to give them a try. My hope is that this beer is an anomaly and the rest of their lineup is more to my liking. Edgar and I will not be lifelong friends. In fact, I can't even say that I'm glad to have made his acquaintance.

The beer pours a nice amber color with a thick frothy white head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a grainy pale and light crystal malt scent along with a fruity lager yeast finish. The taste is good also. It has a smooth, yet grainy pale and light crystal malt flavor that goes down easy and finishes slightly dry with fruity yeast notes. It's nothing spectacular, but it drinks well. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a low bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a great sessions beer that has decent flavor and is highly drinkable.

Poured from bottle into pint glass a light caramel color with a very small white head and minimal carbonation.
Smell is very fruity with an almost astringent like scent to it.
Taste is sweet and a little nutty with a very slight bitter hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel was quite suprising, I expected it to be somewhat flat, because there was very little if any head and carbonation. The mouthfeel is quite crisp actually.
Overall, I would say that this is a very easy drinking beer, although not one of my favorites from this brewery.

This is an interesting beer and the first that I've tried from the newly available in Iowa brewery, Ft. Collins. Everything seems to be quite nice so far.
The appearance is a dark amber color, mostly clear with a pillowy white head and an intense carbonation. Lacing almost refuses to stick to the side of the glass.
The smell is good. Very light and fruity. A lot of berry aroma in there, as well as a light maltiness.
The taste is very good and refreshing. Light and crisp with a light finish of berries and hops. A light dry bitterness. I am enjoying it quite a bit after having gone through so many bigass beers in the past few months.
The mouthfeel is light and has a sting from the carbonation, but the lightly bitter finish combined with the berry flavor works well. Very highly drinkable. I'll probably try it again in the future, and I'm eager to try the other brews even though I've heard from co-workers that most of the Ft. Collins line is sub-par.

Poured a thin white head, but retained it througout. hazy coppery appeance but not a big detractor. Slight estery fruit smells; just barely discernible Malt taste is there but not quite enough, but does allow the hops to sneek on the tounge a little. Not a bad effort, but below the bar for FCB in my opninion.

Had this at the brewery yesterday. Appearance is a cloudy golden with not much in the way of foam or lace. Aroma is reminiscent of sour cream, malt, caramel, and nuts. Body is thin and highly carbonated. Initial taste has hints of fruit, breads, yeast and phenols. Finish leaves a buttery mouthfeel with bitter hops and a sour taste. Not my style.

Hazy auburn honey with a pale khaki topper.
Nose of roasted almonds, currants, old milk, and butterscotch.
Begins with a toffeed nut notion, graduating towards dark bread and plums as it rests. The middle is muddied and unsettling. Many of Fort Collins lagers seem rather ale-like, and somewhat uncouth in their yeast-driven traits, but their better offerings have the robust characteristics to override it (i.e. Kidd, Spring Bock, and Z) and do a better job at hiding the byproducts. Here, the yeast is all burned butter coupled with esters of pear sap and gala apples . This has absolutely zero lagered traits. Hops are indistinct on the close.
Medium bodied with a syrupy viscosity, and some powdery, residual mouth-stick.
Not very good. And that's being nice. Really, this is about a knotch up from repulsive.
And as an aside, I've gone back and resampled some of the previously mentioned FC brews that I've enjoyed a lot in the past (as in, two weeks to a month ago), it has become obvious that they must be EXTREMELY fresh, as they fall off quality-wise faster than me on water skis after a 12pack.

12 oz. bottle purchased at the brewery. Has a clear amber hue with a white head. Rich, sweetbread smell. Medium bodied with a rich, creamy mouthfeel. Taste is of roasted grains and sweet malts; no surprizes here. Finishes with a slight hop bite.
