The fifth member of the series, Smoked IPA, mingles a soft sweet smoke with citrus zest in the aroma, each fighting for dominance. Strong hop bitterness cuts through at the end to keep this beer clean, bright and full of flavor. FCB utilizes hand-crafted malts from Copper Fox Distillery to process a floor malted, dried in a traditional wood-fired kiln, and smoked by smoldering select fruitwoods on top of the distillery kiln room’s cast iron stove to create the unique flavor palate of the Smoked IPA.

Rich, gold-colored body, faintly hazy; lots of slow-rising carbonation; thick, creamy; rocky, white head. Wood ash and caramel aroma; very mild spiciness. Smoke and ash flavors riding over a heavy malt sweetness; gentle fruit sweetness; slow building hop bitterness at the finish and lingering beyond; buttery. Medium bodied; mostly dry finish.

How to size this one up? The smoke character dominates things and there is a nice hop bitterness that eventually shows up. Maybe if weighed against the idea of the IPA being English-styled, this could work, but there is little modern West coast IPA character here. The beer feels weighted down by a heaviness out of character with an IPA and seems a tad too sugary with the residual sugars. An interesting idea that just doesn't quite meet the challenge of mixing a smoked beer with an IPA styling. An interesting curiosity but not a must-try. It will appeal more to smoked beer lovers rather than IPA fans...

Pours into a nonic a clear copper color with a sticky full one finger white head atop.Mild smoke and fruity hops in the nose.Earthy and grassy hops with some caramel sweetness with light smoke on the palate, something seems to be missing flavor wise. The flavors lack the smoke and/or the hoppiness to make this beer more than pretty average.

Yes very smokey. For 4.99 a bomber not too bad. The hop profile isnt there for an IPA though. Not something to drink all night but okay for a tasting.

I bought this beer for roughly 9.00$ US, but really only because I've had a few of the FCB beers and I thought they were okay. This... This... abomination... called smoked IPA, is simply... shit. It's awful. It reminds me of Copenhagen original dip. The smoky-shit flavor overwhelms everything, and it is a struggle to get down. I love IPA's and I don't count this really as an IPA.. more like dip-piss-water. My $9 would have been better spent on a copy of Mein Kampf.

A Smoked India Pale Ale? It's part of FCB's limited release beers that showcase malts smoked over wood-burning fires. I love smoke. And IPAs. I'll try it!

Poured from a 12oz bomber.

Hazy, light amber in color with a thin white lacing. Smoke, charred wood, toast, and herbal hops in the nose. Crazy smoke! Super creamy on the palate. Intense smokey flavors that permeate the palate. Thin maltiness. Some fruity apple notes. Dry overall. As for the IPA in this beer, I'm getting herbal and citrus zest. That's it. Dries out even more in the finish with a smokey linger that hangs long past its welcome.

It is what it says: a Smoked IPA. Doesn't work for me though. The smoke is over-the-top. There's no malt backbone to provide balance. And the hops struggle in the smoke, and ultimately lose.

This might be fun to cook or pair with, but on its own it's tough to enjoy more than a taste.
