Look - nice dark brown with a nice tan head
Smell - dark fruits but also a sour note which I did not expect for the style
Taste - follows the smell. Nice dark fruits and malts but there's a hint of sourness.
Overall - an ok English old ale but not what I was expecting. A sourness keeps coming thru that takes over initial notes of the malt and dark fruit

Pours dark garnet, nose is caramel, prunes, a bit of booze. Tastes great, caramel up front, dark fruits in the middle, backside is all bitter chocolate. Mouthfeel is moderate, the higher carbonation keeps it from being cloying.
I was surprised to see the two other reviews, my bottle is decidedly delicious and uninfected.

This is an awful beer. As the previous reviewer noted, this is an infected beer.
I can see why this is still sitting on shelves everywhere, as anyone who had purchased it never came back for a second.
L- definitely looked an old ale
S- somewhat tart aroma with some caramel notes
T- quite sour, unpleasant at best
F- instant foaming in your mouth once you sip it. Absolutely off-putting
O- easily one of the worst beers I've ever had due to the sour element and more so because of the foaming action likely due to infection.
I emailed the brewery about this, not knowing this beer was retired. I see it all over town though and it is anything but inexpensive. I haven't heard back from them, though I suspect I won't given their reputation for quality control. I'll likely edit this review- hopefully with a story about great customer service, but we'll see.

An attractive dark copper with two fingers of quickly-dissipating head. Smells tart and tannic, and my guess from the bottle notes is that this is not intentional, as it goes well beyond a complementary vinous note. Instead, the sweet, malty, dried fruit notes claimed by the label are nearly missing. This is not yet a full-blown sour, but it seems to be on its way. It has more a lactic character associated with ageing, despite being fairly new; the other defining characteristics of an old ale are present... I guess... but in short supply.
Not bad, per se, but not to style and not what I was expecting.
