Classic English Strong Ale. Maris otter pale malt, brewery-made invert sugar #3, East Kent Goldings hops (Charles Faram Farms, UK), Fuller’s yeast. Cold-conditioned for 6 months. Notes of toffee, marmalade, and honey-wheat toast, with an orange and white-pepper hop character.

Up front this is lightly sweet, honey and orange marmalade on scones comes to mind. I also get a little cinnamon and butterscotch. The finish dries out pretty abruptly and quite dramatically. The scones turn to mineral-y biscuits and the oranges turn pithy and bitter. The tale of two beers here, and I really like the both, thanks again Tom!

Picked up a 500 ml bottle from the Appalachian Vintner 8-15-23 for $11.99. Bottled late spring/early summer 2023; consumed 8-25-23. I just missed getting this at the brewery when visiting in May.
Beer poured amber with a really nice white head that has dissipated in pretty quick order.
Nose is bread and honey with a trace of dark fruit lurking in the background.
Taste is very nice as i am definitely getting fresh baked wheat bread with honey and some figs. I am picking up marmalade from the hopping giving it a balance that is nice, almost a bitter edge. Do i dare say this is an American BW?
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth.
Overall i can't recall having a honey bread forward barleywine before but i am digging how all the flavors are pulling together. Glad i was able to get a bottle!

Appearance: Arrives a clear dark amber color with a one finger head that leaves webs of lacing
Smell: Toast and toffee with an earthy marmalade tone
Taste: Toast and toffee forward with earthy bitterness developing; a hint of marmalade in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation
Overall: This barleywine verges in a more bitter direction than I expected without having the matching strong toffee tones I was anticipating
