355 mL can from the brewery; no canning date. Served barely chilled.
Pours a clear golden yellow colour, producing half a finger of loose, frothy white head that fades within a minute or two. A narrow ring of wavering lace is deposited above a sudsy collar and cap; looks fine to me. Orange peel, orange oil and too much vanilla on the nose, along with a confectionery-like milk sugar sweetness.
The flavours aren't far from the aroma - big vanilla flavours at the forefront, with a lightly grainy, doughy backdrop interspersed with hints of orange peel and pulp. The lactose provides a creamy, baseline sweetness that lasts throughout the sip; slight orange oil bitterness in the aftertaste, with briefly lingering vanilla and milk sugar. Light-medium in body, with moderate carbonation that adds a little bit of a bite to this brew's smooth, soft mouthfeel. Good drinkability - I think I could drink a couple of these in a row, but I could see the vanilla getting tiresome.
Final Grade: 3.8, a solid B grade. Point Brewing's Orange Creamsicle is a little on the sweet side, but I suppose that's to be expected: I mean, for an 'orange creamiscle' beer, I guess it's pretty well-balanced. Vanilla beers are not really my thing, but the orange flavours in this one seem authentic, which is a definite plus, and makes for a more enjoyable glass. Worth sampling if you stop by the brewpub, and I'm sure I'll drink this again at some point.
