355 mL can from the brewpub; no canning date and served slightly chilled.
Pours pitch black, generating just over an inch of bubbly, foamy tan-coloured head that seeps away within three minutes or so. A half inch band of sticky, messy lacing clings to the glass, with a frothy collar and sudsy cap remaining in place. It smells of roasted grain, coffee and cocoa, with hints of dark chocolate, dark fruit and toffee sweetness.
It's alright - the flavour profile is sweet and roasty, with some underlying acidity. It tastes of milk chocolate, milk sugar, roasted grains and toffee, with hints of coffee and cocoa on the back end. Mild, earthy bitterness and roast/ash at the finish, dissipating into a milky-sweet aftertaste. Medium-light in body, with low carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel; a little on the thin side for a milk stout. Easy enough to gulp back.
Final Grade: 3.5, barely squeaking out a B grade. Point Brewing's Chocolate Milk Stout is a passable effort, but its chocolate flavours are nothing to write home about. Maybe a little too heavy on the lactose, but most of what I'd expect from a milk stout is still accounted for - save for perhaps the silky, generous texture. I'm not in a hurry to drink it again, but I wouldn't turn one down, either... I suppose it's not bad for an inaugural stout release.
