Mind Field is a rotating series of little ales that showcases seasonal ingredients. Mind Field No. 02 is a little ale that was brewed with German pilsner and Vienna malts, spelt malt, and flaked oats. This little ale was hopped with Sonnet and Cascade, then infused with nettle tips. Mind Field No. 02 was fermented cool with our house kölsch strain on strawberries and rhubarb.

this is frankly as good as it gets for me, every detail something remarkable, i cannot believe how understated, and apparently under the radar this is flying, its up there with my favorite beers ive had all year, and ive been so impressed with these guys with the ones ive had, still way too few, but it was nice to get a couple in recently. this is a little saison or grisette or something, multigrain, pils and vienna malt as well as spelt and oats, looks hazy but still delicate, frothy headed and creamy white, belgian or can conditioned lightness and persistence to it, the faintest pink hue in the right light from the additions of strawberry and rhubarb, which present natural as can be in the nose and taste. this is also brewed with nettles, an uncommon beer ingredient maybe not easy to place specifically with all the complexity in here, but certainly adding something, and there is some light almost funk to it, rustic from the malt, and its well hopped as well, they have packed a lot in for such a low abv, insane. the nose and taste are grainy and interesting, but dry and earthen, the brew is immediately herbal too, with the hops and nettles doing their thing before even the fruit, notes of bee balm, verbena, white tea, and preserved lemon, some bitterness for sure, old world character all though this, but also a distinctive freshness, love the hops selected and their dosing. the strawberries are juicy but also tangy, that brilliant and time honored pairing with the rhubarb is at its best here, casting notes of provence rose, pink currant, and watermelon, sweet for a second but then tanged out later, which is where the subtle saison character largely comes from, even though this isnt overly fermentation forward or wild or bretty or anything, its very subtle interesting there too. the strawberries are incredibly honest and real, gorgeously proportioned, and they really bring a lot to this without it being overly fruited. all the elements are heard from, but the cohesive whole is impossibly interesting and vibrant, cant say enough about this. so complex but so drinkable, wonderful carbonation and a fluffed up mouthfeel but with some real substance for its modest abv, captivating sensory experience all around really, nettles and hops are both way cool, and this is real special stuff, cant wait to see what they do with this series next!
