Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark, walnut brown, opaque in the glass with a thin khaki head that dissipates to patches with slight lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt, raisins, dates, well dried plums, rye whisky and a little licorice. Flavor is dry caramel malt, dates, raisins, rye whiskey, toffee, hints of cocoa and light oaky vanilla. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess, nice mouth feel. A deep, dark English style barleywine with lots of dried fruit character and clear notes from the rye whiskey barrels. Somewhat sweet, but appropriate for the style. The color is so dark it looks more like a big stout, but the aroma and flavor are solid barleywine. Great flavor depth approaching an American strong ale profile, but without much chocolate. A full flavored, rich barleywine. Nicely done and a bit of a surprise to me from this brewery that leans towards lower ABV English style ales. A worthy anniversary beer.

This is magnificent. The mouthfeel really stands out, it's full bodied, lightly sticky, and quite viscous with light carbonation.
The flavor profile is pretty unique. Butterscotch, caramel, and an earthy root beer note are all prominent right out of the gate. A light chocolate note joins in mid-palate. The adds plenty of rye and a very interesting herbacious, kind of exotic oakiness. Ryan, I am so tickled that I got to try this one, thanks so much!

8oz pour in a snifter at Bottleworks.
Dark, almost black in the dim light. Caramel and cola, a small ring of creamy tan head with an outcrop. Smell is rich, nutty, earthy, molasses. Booze and vanilla. Lots of oak. Taste is dark horehound and sarsparilla and cola, burnt brown sugar. Oak and earthy bitter cuts the sweet. Nuttiness is getting tossed around. Mouthfeel is thick, velvet, lush. Lovely beer.
