Taster pour at brewery. Cloudy brown pour, wispy head with rings. Fruity aroma, malty, leather. Taste is fruity, prunes, malty, then BLAM! Pure pepper burnthat lingers all the way down

a jalapeno version of their brown ale, i think they did a nice job with the pepper part but im not sure im in love with the base brown ale, which reads a little amateurish and without a real identity, thick and a bit hazy and a little messy, the peppers cover up a lot of that and make it more appealing, but its also pretty hot in the back of the throat, not brutal, but warm enough where i dont really want a whole pint, yet not quite novelty level either, real peppers used in this i am fairly sure, has the green vegetal aspect in the nose a bit and that essential oil heat on the tongue in the flavor, quite honest really. the base beer is murky and as red as it is brown, short tan head on top, some fine sediment looks like. the nose and taste really come in two waves, brown ale first with some dry cocoa character, a toffee sweetness, and some nutty malt, maybe a little yeast thing to it, to me not amazing, but then the second half is pepper, which adds lift and freshness, as much flavor as heat, and a pleasant linger all the way down, afterburner. immediately i like the pepper part but think the brown ale should be better, more tidy, and it would flatter the pepper better, but its cool to see a pepper brown ale, something a little different. light smoke and even black pepper nuance to the jalapeno but it is recognizable as such. cant drink a ton of this, but appreciate the effort. clean up the base beer and this would be much improved...
