Draft at Danelion. Cloudy amber pour, thin ring of off-white head. Light smoky aroma, malty, woody. Taste is malty, smoky, woody with some mild sweetness.

cumbersome beer name, decent effort, a little acrid as it warms and probably more smoked than some folks would prefer, but its cool to see something like this on their menu, one of their more ambitious beers i reckon, lighter reddish amber, some murk to it but not sloppy looking, sort of frothy and there is some lacing as it drinks down. aroma of heavy smoke, not quite actually on fire, but its not as mellow as it could be, maybe not as well balanced by the other elements either, the malt outside of the smoke seems minimal, its all thats really there other than a little generic sweetness, maybe some toast, simple. the ferment doesnt appear amazing here, at best incomplete, at worst a little off, but i get autumnal notes of chestnut, red apple, and bran in the mix which are all nice little layers for this. the flavor is right there too, but all the subtlety is trounced by the heavy smoke, which does start to bring bitterness and acidity as it sits, some acorn and fallen leave notes making this all in on fall, but i think the smoke pushes a little too far overall. soft feeling anyway, bubbly enough but not excited, and with a long linger of smoke, tang, and sweet, fine but not amazing overall, in need of some fine tuning to really hit. a tricky style and im glad they took it on, my guess is that this is better the next time they brew it, still a new operation out here we have to remember. we had a great time last weekend, recommended to visit!
