Drank at Verhaeghe's Tasting Room before noon on a Sunday as our last brewery of a Podge's tour of Belgian Family Brewers. Streuvels is a Flemish folk hero as he wrote in the dialect and vernacular to tell the stories of common working folk... sort of like Dickens did a few decades earlier. So, Verhaeghe dedicated this BB to his work.
Streuvels has a good, but tame head and could use a few more protein swirls. A lazy yeast also did not produce abundant tree fruit. Tastes however were well balanced with just enough hops. (I'm getting the idea that BBs are the Flanders answer to the saisons found in French speaking Belgium.) Medium-mouthed, but soft. Suitable for the table.
While Verhaeghe is best known for their Flanders Red Ales (a style I've warmed to very slowly over the years), I still give them very good Overall Hugs for keeping the flame for this style and as members of the Belgian Family Brewers Assn.
