Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: American IPA
Glass: Pure Project 14-oz. snifter elemental (water) glass
Price: $3.79
From: Windmill Farms in San Diego (Del Cerro), Calif.
Purchased: Jan. 6, 2023
Consumed: Jan. 15, 2023
Misc.: Collaboration with Green Cheek; Canned on Dec. 7, 2022
Went to Windmill Farms and came away with nine solo cans, and two 6-packs. Online description was “Beachwood Brewing & Green Cheek Beer Company agree: Like blue jeans and rock ‘n’ roll, West Coast India Pale Ales are always in style! IPA w/ Strata, Mosaic and Talus hops.” Was looking forward to that hop combo.
Poured a medium yellow clear color with four fingers of rocky-to-frothy white head. Could see a bunch of bubble streams coming up from the bottom and along the sides of the glass. World-class spiderweb foamy lacing. World-class foamy retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Mosaic jumped out on the nose, followed by Strata and Talus. Specifically got rose blossom, floral, mixed berry, mango, red grapefruit, pine, peach, coconut and hints of bubblegum. Not as good with each whiff. Smelled great from the can. Too. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted even better than the nose. Strata led the way here with Mosaic and Talus right behind. Specifically got strawberry, guava, red grapefruit, mixed berry, mango, rose blossom, floral, pine, coconut, oak and hits of bubblegum. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.75)
Damn. This beer was great. So smooth for a West Coast IPA. Excellent overall. (Overall - 4.50)
