Brewery says it includes both rye and wheat malts. plus flavoring with Chinese long pepper, annatto seed, saffron, and honey. Bartender said they call it a Saison because of the yeast.

Seems sweet at first sip. Totally a honey flavor on top of that. Maybe this is more of a light mead than a beer. The mouthfeel is rather nice, though it lacks the usual Saison sudsiness. After the honey blast there is a raspy, harsh, sort of hoppy grainy flavor. The sweetness seems intense at first, then fades into a biterish stew.

Well, it's great if you really like honey, and if you really, really like honey-flavored beer. On tap at Tiger Tiger in San Diego.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ and then again at Beer Revolution

A fairly clear golden orange color with a big white head. A nice bready aroma, a nice bit of honey. I don’t really get much of the pepper. A bit of yeast, too. The flavor has a nice sweetness and plenty of bready malt flavor. A touch of honey, some yeast, and maybe some citrus/orange peel flavor, too. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation.

On-tap at Beachwood I,

A: Pours a deep gold with a medium white head. Solid retention, spotty lace.

S: Quite peppery with some orange and lemon notes. Pungent.

T: The honey and saffron dominated the first part, lot of orange and malt. The pepper comes in and dries everyting out mid-palate with a long spicy, slightly bitter finish.

M: Medium-bodied, dry, crisp carbonation, refreshing for its strength.

O: The saisons I've had from Beachwood have been quite interesting, and I love the flavours the spices brought to this one. Real good beer.
