16oz can
Pours a finger of fizzy brown head into my nonic. Retention is subpar. Lacing is nonexistent. Body is completely black. Looks poor.
Nose is very big, with bold roasty-earthy notes, and a hint of bitter chocolate. Smells quite nice.
Chocolate comes through well on the flavor, with supporting roast. Tastes great.
Carbonation is medium. Body is smooth and pretty thick. Bitterness is modest, but comes through a lot more as it warms. Has a light sweetness and inviting finish. Overall a lovely mouthfeel.
Drinkability is wonderful.
Overall it's a really smooth stout with a big flavor. Perfect example of the style.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, with just a little light transmission in the glass with a thin, fizzy, light khaki head that dissipates to sparse patches with almost no lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, aroma of dark toasted malt, bakers chocolate and drip coffee. Flavor follows, with dark toasted malt, bakers chocolate, Americano coffee and a hint of vanilla. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. A solid and full flavored oatmeal stout with a somewhat thinner body than expected from the use of oats. Excellent chocolate character that’s mostly unsweetened chocolate, but some normal dark chocolate notes as well. Coffee in the finish with nice lingering mocha flavor. This is a flavorful stout and needs just some more oaty body and head retention to really shine. Enjoyable.
