Tried this at Imperial the other day.
The beer pours the expected blackish brown color with pretty good head retention and decent lacing all around. On the nose, there's a huge aroma of chocolate and vanilla, in what smells Iike will be a pretty sweet beer. Might also pick up sone coffee and light whiskey, but the chocolate and vanilla really dominate. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in what is indeed a very sweet beer. Supposedly, this beer has seen considerable barrel aging, but it's really not prominent on the palate. Also, considering the abv., mouthfeel is a bit thin. There's still plenty of flavor and a long finish, but there's no mouth filling presence. Abv is very well integrated into the flavor profile. Maybe it's the sweetness level in this beer, but it really doesn't come across as boozy.
Interesting beer, though a bit more whiskey flavor and a bit less sweetness would improve this beer considerably. Even so, this is still a pretty strong effort from the folks at Obelisk.
