The latest in our single hop series of Pale Ales is here. NZH-104 is a new experimental variety from New Zealand. We brewed with 105 last winter and really enjoyed it so we bought some more 105 and a small amount of 104 to brew with. As with almost all our single hop Pale Ales we used nothing but 104 for bittering, flavor, and aroma additions in the kettle as well as the dry hop. 104 is truly unique, we’ve maybe never experienced a hop quite like it. There is no resin, dankness, or diesely character that NZ hops are often known for. It’s nothing but really bright, tangy, fruit in the aroma and flavor. We’re getting notes of clementine, dried nectarine, green papaya, and some more hard to identify tropical fruit aromas. We find ourselves sticking our noses in the glass to try to figure out exactly what fruits it smells like.
