Lagered ale brewed with Ontario corn and pilsner malt. Our classic take on a classic beer - chill, pale, easy-drinking, and squeaky clean. Tasting notes: Beer's beer, Burdockified. Imagine the first chill beer you ever drank, but way less sweet and way more refreshing. A little white bready, a little corny, slight hints of pepper.

Simple pleasant drinking. Soft hazy yellow. Yeasty, lemony nose., lots of grain. Quite nice for a lager. Grain and malt to taste, a touch of lemon. A skight bit of bite or sparkle on the palate. Quite enjoyable overall.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From The Roundhouse Centre LCBO on Howard Ave. in nearby Windsor. Canned February 18/25. My 12th beer from the Toronto, Ontario brewery, and 9th for 2025. Recommended by Gracie the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Feb 13 2025 and served slightly chilled. Billed as a "premium lagered ale" and brewed with corn, so I'm thinking it makes sense to look at this as cream ale-adjacent.

Pours a clear pale yellow colour, topped with one finger of tight, foamy white head that fizzles off over the next two minutes or so. A soapy collar is left surrounding a filmy cap, with a respectable swath of lace adhering to the glass. Clean, straightforward aroma of grainy pale malts, cracked corn and grain husk, with a very faint grassiness.

The flavours follow the nose: grainy pale malt sweetness, yellow tortilla and corn chips, with hints of grassy hops coming through later on. Grain husk and corn/tortilla aftertaste that doesn't last for long. Light in body, with average carbonation levels that gently agitate the surface of the tongue; feels crisp and smooth, with excellent drinkability. This has real potential as a summer session option.

Final Grade: 3.89, a B+. Burdock's Classic Premium Lagered Ale isn't a novel beer, nor would I call it a particularly memorable one. That being said, when I go camping this summer, it's a beer I will stock up on beforehand. 'Flavourful' might be a stretch, but compared to a macro lager? There's no contest, this is simply flat-out better: the malt flavours are nice, while the corn adds some extra depth. A little more of a hop presence might've helped its case with this beer geek, but given the style, I'm not inclined to criticize it on that basis. A solid lawnmower beer that is well worth trying for yourself.

Pours a small foam head. Keeps some lacing around the glass. Lighter in color than most lagers I've had recently. Very classic Macro beer tasting, so think of Budweiser or even Coors. Not my favorite beer here. I can think of several other beers I would rather have that are also available from LCBO. This beer is not great, or even good. I'd say it's just Ok. I think these guys have better beers and I'll be trying more from this brewery in the future. Just not this beer again.
