A juicy West Coast Pale Ale made with new age hops and Munich Malt. Expect dangerously tropical aromatics with a pinch of piney bitterness.

Tasting Notes:
Pinecone-coladas and getting caught in the rain.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a Teku glass. From the Huron Church Rd. LCBO in nearby Windsor. Canned February 17/26. My 18th beer from the Toronto, Ontario brewery, and 4th for 2026. Proudly lauded by Gracie the cat, with love...

473 mL can with a cheeky-looking black bear profiled on the front label. Dated Feb 17 2026 and served bearly chilled.

Pours a cloudy golden-yellow colour, generating an inch of soapy, sudsy white head that slowly seeps downward. A messy coat of lovely lace is imprinted onto the glass in the process, with a tight collar and a filmy patch left lingering on the surface. Citrusy aromas of grapefruit and mandarin orange are evident, with hints of wheaty malt, apricot and floral hops also coming through; thumbs up so far.

It's a tasty pale ale that comes off like a light WCIPA, if you're into that (which I most certainly am). Wheaty, bready malts serve as the backdrop, with notes of orange and orchard fruit developing early on in the sip. Hints of grapefruit, apricot and floral, slightly piney hops round out the back end, adding some noticeable yet tempered bitterness to the mix; the aftertaste is lightly fruity, trending dry. Medium in body, with moderate carbonation that lends some low level prickliness to this brew's soft, fluffy mouthfeel. Very crushable.

Final Grade: 3.97, a B+. Bears Pale Ale is a fair bit lighter than Burdock's Ducks IPA, but I'd say they're comparable in terms of value. That is to say, they're both a bit pricier than average, but I think they're worth the extra coin, at least if we're talking fresh stock. As a beer geek who has always kinda leaned towards the West Coast style, this pale ale is mostly preaching to the choir - i.e. I recognize my own bias - but if you're looking for a citrusy, even-handed, sessionable alternative to your favourite 6.5% IPA, then Bears will be worth checking out.

From a 473ml can packaged on 17 Feb 26. Poured into a pint glass. A two finger fine white head on a foggy gold. Good head retention. It sticks around to the end. Lots of rocky lacing.

Fruity citrus in the nose. The taste is of soft malts overlaid with floral citrus tasting hops. A moderately bitter finish.

A medium body and carbonation. Overall a pretty good American Pale Ale. Smooth and drinkable.
