Aspasia is an India Pale Ale celebrating some of our favorite New Zealand hops. Crafted with American malted barley, malted red wheat, heaps of flaked oats, specialty German malts, and our house ale yeast blend, this ale is juicy, complex, and soft. Dry hopped generously with a blend of our hand-selected lots of Nelson Sauvin and Riwaka from New Zealand, we taste notes of white grapes, gummy bears, mango gelato, and papaya.
It is named after Aspasia (5th century BCE), who was an influential woman in Classical Athens and attracted prominent writers and thinkers from all around the ancient world. She was known for her intelligence, wisdom, and rhetoric. She was also the mistress of the Athenian statesman, Pericles!
