I am sampling a cold 16 oz can poured into my .5L dimple mug. Picked up cans at the brewery today and today was first release of this beer. So I added to DB.
The beer pours a clear rich chestnut to copper color with 1.5 cm of dense yet fluffy head. This foam fades to a sturdy edge layer and creates some wispy islands in the center of my glass. Scattered lattice on sips and swirls.
The aroma on this beer is dark toasted bread with some mild toasted caramel and maybe a hint of red grape port, or maybe I am imagining that piece. No real hop character on the nose and the abv is very well hidden.
First sip reveals a light body and smooth easy drinking texture. Very fine and gentle tingly carbonation.
Flavor is similar to the nose with dark toasted bread and some mild caramel, definitely not sweet though. Here I 100% get some dark red grape and almost acidic vinous note from the port, this is buried in the background, but it does come through every sip. The port lingers a little on the swallow too. Never any hop note and abv is well hidden as expected. I am enjoying this beer and glad I bought a few cans of this one. Another winner from Caius!
