I was excited to see an English Pub Ale as an opening beer, as most new breweries just try to cater to the masses off the bat. The aroma was promising enough, with light caramel and bready malts. Unfortunately there's some severe astringency in the flavor and finish. The body was quite nice for the style and abv, so hopefully this is just an off batch and they can fix the astringency next time.

Pint pour on draught at the brewery. It pours a cloudy, bright golden color with thick, elegant lacing. The nose offers grains and nutty caramel malt. There is a good depth of flavor with nutty brown bread, caramel/toffee, roasty char, with a fairly bitter hop finish. Nicely balanced. While the mouth feel is crisp and lite, it has a surprisingly firm body for the style. The carbonation level is appropriate and it's poundable at 4.5% ABV. Overall, I'm surprised by some of the ratings. Perhaps others don't care for English Pale Mild Ale but in my opinion and if you rate to style, this ale is quite good. I commend Autodidact for brewing it out the gate.
