I had this on draught at the brewery on the day after release. It was served in a seidel glass. It pours nearly black with dark cola hues at the bottom of the mug, and it sports over two fingers of creamy, light khaki-colored head and thick swirls of lacing. It's a very attractive pour. The smell includes notes of coffee and chocolate; it's earthy and nutty. Its taste follows with freshly-brewed coffee and baker's chocolate over a firm malt base of black bread. Those flavors are balanced by slightly bitter, nutty char. For its 5.4% ABV, this lager is well-bodied and creamy. It is highly drinkable. Overall, Alaska is a fine example of a style that should be more widely-brewed.
