Am a huge fan of F&M beers, so was very excited to try this latest offering I received.

The beer pours a solid gold color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is typical F&M, with an incredible complex array of aromas. There's an initial blast of honey and bretty funk, but which then melts into some dank hoppy aromas and white pepper. Maybe some underlying papaya and vanilla as well. There's really a lot going on in this beer. The flavor profile is every bit as outrageous and unusual. My initial impression was that I was drinking a solid, well crafted saison, as there was some initial honey, clove and light tropical fruit. Midway through my swallow, the initial flavors are completely blown away by considerable hoppy bitterness. There's something of a hoppy floral element as well. The finish is completely dry, and even a bit short. Frankly, the complete switchover in flavor is a bit off putting, and is difficult to completely appreciate. Mouthfeel is medium bodied otherwise I guess, with alcohol barely an after thought.

Drinking this beer is a wild ride, and I'm not sure I'm entirely in love with the experience. Regardless, I love this brewery's ability to constantly push the envelope with their brewing approach, even if on occasion the final result isn't a resounding success. Glad I had the chance to try this one.

Bottle from the brewery.

This is a real under-the-radar gem from F&M, and how it isn't getting more love is beyond me. Hazy straw-yellow pour, with a healthy white head, beautiful lacing. Citrus and funk in the nose, wood and straw, autumn, spring, and summer. Excellent flavor profile, farmy funk, citrus zest, clean and crisp, very nice oak notes, fresh leafy hops. Light and crisp mouthfeel, with a tart zing. Top-notch American saison, right up there with Hill Farmstead, Side Project, etc., and in fact it reminds me a lot of Dorothy. After popping a bottle, I had to go back to get a couple more. My only gripe is the somewhat hefty price tag, which is the only reason I can imagine why this thing didn't instantly fly off the shelves.
