We brewed this year’s Spring Friend with barley, wheat, and triticale all from @DeerCreekMalt , hopped it with some aged hops and some fresh Hallertau Blanc and Mandarina Bavaria, and fermented it with our 2021 Foraged Yeast Culture. This one has such beautiful, honest, and classic saison flavors, it really is a great friend to have around this time of year.

We find notes of ripe pears and their blossoms, Belgian chewing gum, graham cracker crust, rainbow peppercorns, dried anise, a miniature banana, and a friend for life. #believeinsaison

Excellent clarity and a robust persistent head that left behind excellent lacing. Aroma had plenty of cracker and biscuit.

Taste trails off from the look / smell. It’s tasty, but somewhat one dimensional. Hop bite, and some nice peppery spice, but not particularly complex. I’m enjoying it, and dig the low abv (4%)….good, not great.

Pours a lightly cloudy orange color. Two finger tan frothy head forms on the beer, lingers for a moment, then dissipates leaving just a thin residual head on the beer. Aroma has subtle, light notes of grain, pear, yeast, and some peppery notes.

Taste follows the nose with notes of grain, dark bread, peppery yeast, some mild fruitiness with notes of pear, some subtle tangerine and some floral grassy hops on the back end. It has got some really nice complexity to it that kind of surprised me, but I love it. Feel is medium bodied with sprightly carbonation. A bit sweet on the finish.

Overall this is a really nice saison - well worth picking up if you are a fan of the style.

Thanks to Zekeman17 for this one, from a ninja box during the Can-Cans #10 BIF. 16oz can (no date) poured into 14oz teku. Poured a cloudy dark orange-ish/yellow color with 1-1/2 inches of fluffy, rocky white head that had very good retention and lacing.

The aroma had plenty of zesty yeast at the front, with some light grain in the background. Maybe some very gentle floral hops too.

The flavor was also lead by the yeast, with the grains and floral notes in the middle, and a definite yeast spice on the finish.

The body was medium-light, smooth, and had a dry finish.

Drinkability was very good, I'd drink several of these if they were local to me.

Overall, a pretty nice brew. Certainly worth trying if you get the chance.

This beer was can conditioned which I found quite interesting. On the initial pour, prior to pouring the yeast in, this was a mildly hazy golden color with a large and frothy white head. Great foam retention as expected from a Saison. A nice spicy aroma with peppercorns and lemon grass along with dough and faint floral elements. The taste followed nicely. Lots of lemon and lemongrass on the palate along with black peppercorns, lavender, flour, and white bread. Dry and clean on the finish. Carbonation was bright but not as high as I would expect in most bottle conditioned seasons. Overall, a delicious beer. Thanks, Jeff!
