16oz can purchased as a single from the fridge from a local bottle shop/bar for $3.99. No canned on date; I think that this was released in the late Summer (approximately August 1), so that would make this can around 3 1/2 months old.
Look: Pours a medium straw color. It's basically clear with some very tiny particulates floating around in suspension. There is a thick, frothy essentially white head with lots of tiny and larger-sized bubbles. Decent head retention. Looks very nice. Upon pouring the remainder of the can into my glass, the beer gains a translucent haziness.
Smell: Notes of sulfur, crackery malt, and mild yet spicy and grassy hop notes. I get subtle white grape notes. Green bell pepper notes upon swirling the glass.
Taste: It's very light and it's also very tasty and crushable. This has a lot more flavor than one would expect for a 4% ABV American Lager. It's crisp and clean. Up front, it's very light with a subtle grainy sweetness and fruitiness. The beer finishes dry with a mild to moderate bitterness - lots of spicy/vegetal/herbaceous pepper notes.
Feel: It's light to medium bodied. Very clean and crisp with a dry, lingering bitter finish. Crushable, ideal for warm weather but appropriate for all weather.
Overall: I think that this is my first taste of Grungeist hops. This doesn't impress me as much as most of the other F&M beers that I have had, but I certainly appreciate this for its lightness and simplicity. Solid, like everything that F&M does.
From the website:
A beautiful light lager brewed with fine German barley, a double decoction mash, and hopped delicately with Hersbrucker and Grungeist. We’re tasting notes of lemon poppy seed scones, orange blossom honey, rustic crackers, gentle anise hyssop, and your pal eating some honeydew next to you. Pairs really well with summertime.
