On-tap at Forest and Main. This beer is a blend of a traditional Saison and a sour. Pours cloudy amber/gold with a small head that dissipates quickly. The lacing, however, is quite creamy looking and clings nicely to the glass. The nose is a blend of citrusy hops, Belgian yeast esters (spices, pepper, etc), and a tart lemony acidity. Some sweet caramel malt is detected underneath it all.
The flavor leads with the saison yeast and its spicy, peppery character; followed by moderate lemony sourness and acidity, and ends with a citrusy hop note that imparts a bit of lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. Again a moderate caramel malt presence props things up but dries out in the finish.
Medium to slightly light bodied, clean and crisp carbonation, refreshing and complex. Not an over-the-top puckering sour, but a lovely marriage of all of its disparate elements.
