Designed in cooperation with OSU’s fermentation science program, this black lager was brewed with specialty dark malts and gently hopped with German hops. Extended cold conditioning rounded out its sharper roast character, producing a smooth and refreshing dark beer offering notes of toasted nuts, dark chocolate, and dried fruit.

Very dark red-tinged brown with modest, very dark foam in the tall glass. Not overly carbonated. Clean, faint aroma of grain. Some flavor of caramel and roasted malt. Mellow rather than burnt. Hints of chestnut and walnut in the finish.

Tastes like a Schwarzbier to me, considering the alternatives. Quite drinkable though the flavors are a little mixed up, somehow. Flat aftertaste without bitterness. From the 16 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station. Packaged 08/20/21.

16oz can served in a big snifter. Dated 10/15. Don't remember where I picked this up.

Pours black with a small head. Smell is roasty, coffee, a little lager yeast.

Taste is a blast of sour cherry with a weird bitter finish, none of the roasty, coffee, or yeast flavors.

Mouthfeel is medium, maybe a little slick. Overall...I can't drink this. Something is wrong.

Look: Jet black with a tan to light brown head that billows up nicely and settles quickly to a lid, leaving behind good lacing
Aroma: Roasted barley, light nutty notes, wafts of coffee being brewed, some earthiness, and brown bread
Taste: Roast, brown bread, and the coffee-esque aspects come quickly onto the scene with nuttiness and earthiness following close behind. All the flavors blend well and come in and out of the forefront before closing with more roast
Mouthfeel: Full but light feeling, crisp and clean throughout, medium-high carbonation, and a very clean finish
Overall: This is tasty stuff. I’m a sucker for a good Schwarz and though I am a Block 15 fan, their lagers in the past don’t usually blow me away but this one is very good and hopefully a trend that continues. Great roast/coffee/nutty notes and very clean and crisp as well. The can description says it was made in cooperation with Oregon State University’s Fermentation Science Program which is bad ass too and something I can also definitely support and hope to see more of

A very aggressive pour into an Imperial pint nonic glass. You get a frothy, quickly fading head and a blast of blackstrap molasses nose. Taste is light for the pitch-black appearance, but this is a lager - not an ale. No sharpness and long finish, modest bitterness. We're impressed.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a narrow collar of off white bubbles around the edge of the glass and some delicate lacing on the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of dark malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and is dominated by flavors of dark malts. While no bitterness is apparent, there seems to be just enough in the way of underlying hops to mask any sweetness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and very smooth and slick on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is all about the dark malts but is super easy to drink.

Very attractive looking beer..mahogany body with a beautiful inch thick beige head..rocky/bubbly/lacey
Aroma is strangely lacking..what i get is some weak chocolate, mild mint and some weak floral hops.
Taste is a bit better.. sweet , malty some black fruits and a bit of mint again. Its nice but not a schwarzbier.
Mouth feel is fine..lowish carbonation and a nice finish.
This is a nice enough dark lager..but not a Schwarz.
