Block 15 Brewing - Southtown Tap Room

From the can. Pours with the slightest chill haze and a heady cap of foam. The nose has a piney hop character with some floral notes, maybe a little grapefruit pith. The sip follows with a drying finish.

 

Poured from a 16 ounce can dated 7-8-25 into a tulip glass at 48 degrees.

Look- Straw, moderately hazy, plentiful tiny visible particulate, white sudsy head, average head retention and lacing.

Smell- Pine, grapefruit, slightly dank, between weak and medium strength of scent.

Taste- Pine, grapefruit, between weak and medium strength of flavor.

Feel- Between thin and medium body, average carbonation, highly bitter, crisp finish, mildly dry finish, mildly mouth warming, moderately creamy.

Overall- Straw and moderately hazy with average head retention and lacing. Nose was pine, grapefruit and dank with moderately weak intensity. The flavor followed the nose, but was relatively low intensity as well, especially since this beer was double dry hopped. Feel was between thin and medium body with high bitterness and a crisp finish. Overall the aromatics and flavor were good, but much too underpowered. This beer provided a good drinking experience, but was slightly below average for the style.

A damn fine, straight up old school IPA.
Gold to amber in hue, fluffy white head, and nice lacing.
Piney with citrus zest and a hint of alfalfa and grass.
Flavor follows the nose with a hint of mild grainy malt note that carries things along and makes room for other notes: pine needle, grapefruit, some weed.
Mouthfeel is spot on, decent carb, & slightly bitter .

 

Here is another tasty IPA from Block 15. Pours a clear golden amber with lots of lacing down the Maredsous goblet. Aromatic with orange, alfalfa, and a whiff of pine. Quite tangy with a spritzy mouthfeel and medium malty body. Flavors of citrus and a touch of apricot, and just enough malty sweetness. A resiny finish but not overly bitter. Quite hoppy but highly drinkable in the classic IPA vein. From the 16 oz can purchased at Elizabeth Station. Dated 11/06/23.

Pours two fingers of white head into my Willi. Retention is quite nice. Lacing is awesome. Body is golden, with a moderate clarity and a modest nucleation. Great looking beer.

Nose is very tropical, notes of mango, papaya, and a creamy undertone. Some faint pine that comes out with time. This is my kind of modern IPA.

Flavor hits much more down to earth at first, but quickly opens up into pine and tropical fruit, only getting more pronounced over time, even developing a little dankness. By the time this fully warms, it’s really nice.

Carbonation is pretty soft, though certainly not flat. Body is about medium. Relatively bitter, with just a touch of sweetness to help offset. A dash of hop spice comes through too, adding some nice character. Really good mouthfeel.

Drinkability is perfectly fine.

Overall a solid, flavorful IPA.

Medium, white head. Medium amber appearance. Spiced pine and a touch of mixed citrus peel and a good dose of medium toasted malt, for the aroma. Medium bodied. A good dose of toned down grapefruit peel, some pine and a fair amount of medium light toasted malt, makes up the taste.

L - classic old school west coast rusty pale color to it; decent head for a bit, good lacing.
S - subtle PNW presence, but definitely heavy on the old forest floor pine and some weedy/citrus aromas.
T - where the beer shines for me; dry pine, more forest, more weed - dank in the old way, not the "too weedy" way.
F - Along with the taste, this beer is so dry at the end, it drops off a cliff somewhere near Astoria. Nice balance to this.
O - I could kill a 4 pack of these, in a row, it's old school nostalgia in a can here. Reminds me of the some of the old CCC hop blends.

Look: Nearly clear burnt orange with a frothy white head that quickly builds and holds as a pillow, slowly receding and leaving great lacing behind
Aroma: Oranges, lemons, pine sap, white grapefruit, bready malt, light floral notes, some dank, and mandarins
Taste: Starts off with sappy pine needles and pitch that remind you of being in a forest after fresh rain and as this deepens, waves of citrus fruit come to join the party. A little dank weaves in and out throughout and closes with more pine, citrus, and a bite
Mouthfeel: Full, lightly slick, medium-high carbonation, and a semi-dry finish
Overall: I dig it. Another tasty IPA from these folks and in a sea full of them, stands out with a hefty pine presence – which I dig – and plenty of citrus but without the berry note that many similar ones have. I also enjoy its drier nature as that is something I personally prefer in my IPAs and its evident throughout. Recommended, especially for pine-heads.

Hazy rich gold with three fingers of cream color head.
Smell is citrus fruit and pine.
Taste is citrus orange and pine.
Mouthfeel is medium well carbonated. The finish is mildly dry and medium bitter.
Overall a pleasing West Coast IPA.

A good West Coast IPA. Pours slightly hazy, good head, definite hop nose. Right dab smack in the ole wheelhouse, as they say. Good flavor from dry hopping. As a plus, they did not skimp on the malt bill, which lends a good mouthfeel and longer finish.

It's hard in the PNW to get attention and break out of the pack and this has some good qualities. It's a on-off beer but may come around again.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a three finger white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of pale malt, piney and dank hops, pine, faint orange and catty dankness. Flavor is pale malt, piney and dank hops, pine, lemon citrus, dankness developing mid taste with a mild wave of sweetness; finishes piney and dank with some lingering citrus rind. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Always happy to see a West Coast IPA and this one has the traditional pine, but less citrus and a little more dank character, which is also welcome. Bitterness is a bit restrained, but adequate. Not too complex, but enjoyable and to style. I like the flavor progression with the brief wave of light malt sweetness before a fairly dry finish. Block 15 never disappoints.

 

Appearance is a golden straw color, slightly hazy with a thick, sudsy head. Indistinct aroma, some slight notes of hops and malts come through. This IPA is pretty straightforward and simple, nothing that note worthy or out of the ordinary. Flavor consists of dank hops and pine on the forefront then finishes with a malty profile. Clean, crisp and easy to drink. Moderate bitterness than lingers a bit in a medium body. It's a decent west coast IPA overall, not the best I've had from Block 15 but still worth a try.
