This delicate Belgian Blonde laid for over a year in French oak. These red wine barrels lend a slight tannic note, yet this aged blonde ale is reminiscent of Chardonnay. La Riviere dwells outside of the big, barrel-aged stout box, showcasing a more refined and nuanced style.

poured from a 32oz crowler into a stemmed bulb glass. pours a burnt orange with soapy white head. head forms a nice collar around the glass. smells of oak and red wine. lots and lots of oak. taste is very oak forward as well but it does give way to a more belgian blonde base which is surprisingly easy drinking for how barrel forward this is. feel is oaky dry but full bodied. sits on the tongue and in the mouth very full and finishes full as well. overall, this is a pretty unique brew. definitely smells stronger than it drinks. i’m thinking the next iteration of this could spend 6-8 months in puncheons and benefit from the lack of such extended aging. still, a beyond decent beer and very interesting coming from the masters of bourbon barrel-aged beers.
