one of the weirdest beers ive had in some time, not sure i loved it, but it sure is interesting, a super strong rum barrel aged fruited sour at its core, this is dosed with cherry, honey, lime, allspice, orange, and bitters, so weird. its hazy and thick and light pink, without much head sticking around but is fizzy like soda in the glass, slightly viscous. the nose and taste both hit me with bitter right away, i knew it immediately, there has to be bitters in this, its very cocktail and intense off the jump, cherry and lime also bold, acidic, tangy, mouthwatering, but its also rummy and sweet, the honey sweetness is there too, and some orange juice sweetness too, so this does immediately go into the cocktail realm, very little grain or hops to keep it beery, but its close enough with the oak and the curious yeast, almost a distillers yeast thing, bready and hot and kind of messy because its about the alcohol not about the character of the ferment, not that this is fusel or gross just that its hot and a little yeast forward even beyond the bacterial sourness. the rum is there, for sure, sweet with a molasses note among the oak, but also then its kind of cheap and overly alcoholic, and while i like the generic fruitiness and what the bitters do on the finish, which is herbal and even umami, i think the whole thing doesnt need to be sour, its way too strong, sweet to a fault, and is perhaps trying to do one too many things. i respect the effort, its woody and strong and strange, limey too as it warms, but i can really only handle a little bit. one of the strongest beers like this ive seen, well done for what it is like all their beers, but this was one of the weaker offerings we tried when we were in. nothing quite like it, but not totally for me...
