The wait is over, and Perkūnas Baltic Porter has finally arrived in our taprooms after a nice long lagering in the Milwaukee cellar. Perkūnas, named after the Baltic god of thunder, brings to the palate the malt driven flavors of a porter and the roastiness of a schwarzbier, combining into one thunderous dark lager.

Poured from a pint can, the body is an opaque black with one finger of fluffy head. Solid lacing throughout the tasting. Nice looking beer.

Aroma is a nice malty char with light notes of tobacco and chocolate.

Taste follows the nose as the bill carries the load. A bit of unsweetened chocolate flavor works well with the malt. No bitterness and perhaps a wee smoky flavor.

Mouthfeel is a bit light for a Baltic, but still is solid. Good carbonation.

Easy drinking porter that I'd love to have a bit more chew and some bitterness, but quite serviceable nonetheless.

Poured from the can. Have had this for roughly 6 months now.

The beer pours a fairly dark brown color with very good head retention and lacing. On the nose I'm picking up light licorice, vanilla and dark chocolate. This beer smells pretty good, what I'm picking up. The flavor profile replicates the nose, though there's just more of everything. Also getting a roasty quality, though it's not excessive. Mouthfeel is actually fairly light and a bit thin, but with a round, soft quality that is enjoyable. Alcohol is very well integrated into the flavor profile... would have guessed that the abv. is lower than 7%. Drinkability is pretty good, with a touch of roast and licorice on the finish.

Nothing exceptional here... just an easy going, easy to appreciate and enjoy Baltic Porter. Nice beer.

From a 16oz can:

Appearance: Dark brown, good head.

Smell: Roasted malt with a bit of sweetness.

Taste: Light roasted flavor, toasted bread, creamy feel. Tastes like a standard brown ale. Maybe a hint of fruitiness as it warms, but mostly stays in the toasted bread lane, pretty light body for a baltic porter.

Overall: Obtained in a trade, this is a decent porter, but reminds me more of a plain ol' brown ale. It is an easy drinker for a baltic porter.
