Just added this beer to this Next Glass owned database. Respect Next Glass! Next Glass's significantly more popular webite Untappd lists this as a Dark Ale. At this lesser traveled location, there is no such designation, so I went with the closest thing. But this is an American Dark Ale if you ask me (and the owners of this place).
This pours like the darkest red you can imagine. It looks black, but when held up to the light, that super dark red appears. Its cool looking. Beige head, 1/2" deep. The aroma hits on the coffee end of things. Very nice aroma, this smells like great coffee. Pilcrow you say.
The smells are stronger than the coffee aspect tastewise. There is the requisite roasted malt, but its not in such a thick quantity to make this a porter or stout. It came off like a red ale and stout, together as one, with bangs. The bitter ashiness starts to build, but even if it doesn't finish as strong as it started, its a good beer, went nice on a cold wet afternoon spent indoors.
