Appearance: Only a very dark brown, not maximum opacity. Good sized head.
Smell: If blindfolded, I would say a standard citrus-smelling IPA. I don’t detect any roasted/blackened malts.
Taste: Starts citrusy, mild sweetness. More citrus follows, nice orange and tangerine flavors. Very mild roastiness. Medium bodied, lighter than expected for the abv. Finishes with mild citrus bitterness and a hint of roast.
Overall: I was expecting tongue-blistering bitterness from either the malts or hops or both, but this was a pretty tame black IPA. Not a lot of roasted malt character, almost tasted just like a standard IPA. Tasty.
