I think it’s Friday. You know, there’s a line in the Stones' ‘Memory Motel’ (great song off of 'Black & Blue') that goes “On the 7th day, my eyes were all a-glaze, we’ve been 10,000 miles, been in 15 states...”, and I’ve got to tell you, I kind of feel like that. I mean, it was our 9th day, and we had only done like 700 miles and been in 4 states, but still. Damn, these beer & baseball trips hurt (sigh). Starting the day pregaming; this literally ‘before the game’. In an industrial strip out in somewhere parked ISO Lager…
Up past the out front seating pen and in. Housed in an old something something space repurposed, to be sure. It’s well worn. Off to the right, an ‘L’ shaped b/w tortoise shell topped bar, white subway tile base, and foot shelf. Seating for 15 on swivel backed stools. 10 logo and not handles on a stainless panel box on barback center. Crazy beer & food tracking board that keeps rolling over above, and a steel logo piece atop. 7 shelf high units to both sides glow lit running up the walls. Glassware on the lower shelves, and steins & vessels higher up for show. Wines & a growl filler countered, and cupboard space below the bar. A horizontal glass showcase sits just past the bar with chocolate covered oranges, meat & cheese board, brats, & flammkuchen. Snacks and merch there, too.
Distressed concrete and brick walls, white plank ceiling with duct work, wood plank floors around the bar and concrete beyond. Drop pan lamps tracing the bar and drop caged lanterns to the rear. A trio of triple wide bottle & can coolers on the far wall house (like) crazy imports and American craft. Green alt height boxed shelving unit above and slightly to both sides of the coolers, with vessels, steins, case boxes, merch, etc. Cuckoo clock on the wall forward of the shelving. And a brewery to the rear, as they make beer here.
5 long tables across the floor horizontally off the bar & 1 more set vertically in the rear corner with bar counter space ‘L’ing around it. More bar counter space forward, below the overhead front roll up. And picnic tables for the share on the front deck.
10 beers up at current. 5 house beers (Porter, 7%; Pilsner, 4.5%; Wheat, 5.3%; IPA, 6.5%; Oktoberfest, 4.5%) and 5 guest beers; 4 of them imports (Weihenstephaner Helles, Bavik Super Wit, Erdinger Weissbier Hefeweisse, Stiegl Radler), and the 5th being something called “Witch’s Hat Coffee; which may or may not have been their “Thrash Punk Coffee Kolsch". Might have got into a few (Porter, sturdy, some good roast; Wheat, Hefe pleasant, crisp, bananananana & clove; Pilsner, light & easy, this beer jammed. Porter & Pilsners for the wins).
There are light foodings available beyond what’s in the case; pretzel, cucumber salad, soup of the day, & homemade breads who have names like ‘pumpernickel’ and ‘sourdough’. Crazy tunes; Jazz, Hip Hop, Blues, Trip Hop. Flats forward and to the rear for US Open action just now. Good house. I like Lager.
