Pounding Husks, whose name is translated directly from the Greek demi-god of sowing grain and milling wheat Triptolemos, is made up of nothing but Maris Otter malt, Magnum hops, and patience. Its deep brown color is achieved not by colored malts, but an intense four hour boil that provides a complex layer of caramel, toasted malts and toffee. After a slow and cool fermentation, this barleywine aged gracefully in a rye whiskey barrel for 19 months. The result is a sweet, rich and spicy slow sipper with big notes of caramel, vanilla, and rye.

500 ml wax capped bottle, 2025 vintage. Big thanks to Brutaltruth for this! Served in a snifter, the beer pours a cloudy brownish/red color with not even a quarter inch tan head that didn't stay around for too long. Small amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like raisins, caramel, rye whiskey, vanilla, oak and some breadiness. For the most part the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some dates and molasses flavors noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and a bit rich but also has a low amount of carbonation. Overall I liked this one, definitely worth trying and hope to make it over to Wandering Monsters the next time I'm in Cincy!

From the bomber in a snifter. This BEAST pours a murky burnt auburn with a
faint head of khaki foam that settles to a thin ring with some great legs. Nose of
spicy rye, whiskey, vanilla, oak, astringent booze, caramel, raisin, and dates. Flavors
follow the nose with caramel, oak, vanilla, spicy rye, whiskey, dates, figs, raisin bread,
and subtle cherry dashed in astringent booze. Mouth feel is medium, warming, rich,
light carbonation, I can't feel my face.....hmm.....and finishes moderately dry and
nicely balanced on the sweetness.

Overall, a stellar brew from a quickly becoming our favorite brewery!

Cheers
