another solid beer from these guys, they seem to be playing in a range of styles and i just love their branding. this is really solid, good attention to detail, and its a style i wish we saw more of, love beers like this! darker than a brown ale, looks almost porter-esque in the glass but still light in body, frothy tan headed and with some lace, looks right on, perhaps a tad robust as these go, no complaints from me! the aroma and flavor have nice complexity, a nutty but dry middle, european malts, nutty, hints of walnut and wood pulp, trace smoke, more roast than most of these have, high end dark chocolate, and an appropriate almost bready yeast to it, drier than seems even possible when it first hits my palate, really fast finishing and even almost crisp for what it is, impressive! not overly english to me but it has some old world charm, i do think they got a little deeper than is traditional with it, but man does it really work! smooth and well carbonated, real easy down, and satisfying in a way that makes it seem almost healthy. downright delicious, put these guys on the map! a top recent example of the style from me, nailed it.
