I bought this beer a few month ago in the Hopduvel in Gent. Just a pick between the hunderds of beers.
Pouerd in my Struise glass the beer looks good. Brown fluid and an enourmous head, broken white to very light brown. NIce big bubbles but not much carbonation.
Good smell. Sweet and with some caramel.
The taste is better than average. I drank this in the yard during a very sunny sunday afternoon.
Soft and a little sweet, very drinkable.
On my bottle it said it had 8.5 vol.alc.

Nice poorout with litle head and dark brown beercollor. nosre is lots of old vegetables, sweet corn and overall very sweet and unfresh. hardly any of the listed honey noticable. Taste is also horrible being very unfresh and won't try more then one sip of this IMO undrinkable beer.

I first tasted this beer along with another BA Greg (Dukeofearl) at the Beer Circus pub, East Croydon, London. It was pretty delicious so I decided to bring back home a bottle with me. The BB date is January 2006 and the alc. strength is lighter: 7.5%abv.
A: in a big tulip-shaped wine glass it pours a dark bronze colour, coming with a force-poured off-white foamy head dissipating quite fast (for a Belgian bottled beer)... the liquid comes pretty cloudy, with chunky pieces of yeasts sneaking into my glass in a blink of an eye... (I wish they wouldn't taste anything coz they look really massive and threatening...)
S: yeasts, molasses and caramel maltiness dominate, after swirling a profound flow of exotic fruit esters prevails, decorated with more candy sugars and a sharp citrus-fruity+sour berry edge. The initially sharp yeasty note proves a bit overpowering for me, though thankfully it does go softer later on.
T&M: sharply yeasty and sweetish flavour of malts, with plenty of Chinese red-bean paste like flatly textured brown-sugary flavour upfront--later on as the texture softens, the flavour is joined force by a more settled, dried-sweetened tangerine-rind and pleasant preserved passion-fruit kind of fruitiness at the back and a semi-thick texture of candyish taste with a slightly musky and (finally) honey-ish flavour, staying firm but manageable. Luckily, not too much yeasty and sugary aftertaste is left behind. The mouthfeel remains quite smooth, except for the first two minutes of tasting, and the overall body is much lighter than a standard Belgian Strong Dark Ale at this strength (7.5%abv.).
D: somehow it doesn't taste at home as deliciously as my last bottle at Beer Circus with Greg, maybe it's to do with the atmosphere or with the slightly higher temp. I choose to serve it, yet the texture is more settled for sure, and a clearer honeyish aftertaste is shown better than at a lower temp. Can't have the best of both worlds, eh?

Appearance: reddish brown, good clarity, bubbly layer of tannish foam which quickly implodes and collapses to a thin layer
Aroma: caramel, molasses, yeast, vitamins, honey
Flavor: slightly sweet maltiness, some caramel, not much hop character, finishes quite dry with a powerdery biscuit aftertaste; also a very odd, musky flavor similar to the worst characteristics of blackstrap molasses (hard to describe)
Mouthfeel: medium body, crisp, good carbonation, somewhat astringent
Overall Impression: With it's photocopied, low-tech label, I really wanted to like this beer (I tend to favor the underdog), but that strange molasses flavor makes it just shy of off-putting. Of course, as my senses numb to it and it fades away, the beer tastes much better. Not enough to change the score, though.
It says on the label that it is brewed with honey. I'm guessing they use some really old, dark "tree-based" honey.

Appearance turbid as sweet mud. Yeast.
Light brown foam, with some big bubbles.
The smell remembers some like wet, under wood, ground...
Chestnut honey. Sweet.
In the smell the alcool (after a little while) is evident.
Taste: liquorice. Sweet. Honey. Caramel.
Body light, too light for the alcool...
Aftertaste bitter, in evidence. A little medicinal.
