Poured from a growler into a tulip glass. I had the growler filled at the brewery yesterday.
Appearance: very dark brown with enough haze that light doesn't get through, with a cap of creamy tan foam atop.
Smell: moderately sweet with a nice chocolate-raspberry thing going on. There are notes of caramel and the vanilla element is light -- just an accent, really, almost not noticeable. I find vanilla can be overpowering so I like the gentle touch here. The raspberry is really nice.
Taste: moderately sweet but with plenty of acidity, possibly from the raspberries. The raspberry flavor is really good, very natural, and has a nice earthiness. Again, the vanilla is super subtle, and I'm not sure I get anything of the bourbon (at least not overtly). I think this beer could use a little bit more sweetness to balance the tartness from the berries and astringency from the roasted malt, but nevertheless it is a good beer.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess. A little more malt would help here, too.
Overall: a pretty solid beer for a fruited vanilla porter! A nice almost-dessert beverage that is a lovely sippin' beer.
