Overall comes across as to artificial. Dry on the palate while being too sweet as well. Blue tinged ruby colour is attractive, but short bead, no lace. Blueberry doesnt quite marry up to the pale ale lurking underneath. Meh.

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBo purchase for around $3.75 CDN. Freshest by July 24, 2021.

Appearance - Semi hazy, dark reddish / purple color. Small trail of lacing. Otherwise nondescript.

Smell - Vaguely like blueberries, quite muted. Improves ever so slightly as it warms.

Taste - Blueberry smoothie, plenty of blue berry, a creamy milky sweetness. Low bitterness. Really quite tasty if you like a milkshake-like beer.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, well carbonated and drinks a bit thicker, milkshake-esque.

Overall - Unusual beer but quite tasty and worth a tipple. Flavor combos are nice. Flavorful and with good feel but without really overdoing (but not underdoing it either).

473 mL can from the LCBO; best before Jul 24 2021 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a deep, clear purplish-fuchsia colour, topped with more than a finger of foamy, creamy, pale pink-tinged head that settles off within five minutes or so. It leaves behind an arcing ring of sticky lacing, in addition to a tight collar surrounding a circular islet of creamy froth. Looks great to me, and the aroma is pretty appealing, too - almost like a blueberry cheesecake, with hints of pomegranate, cream and blueberry jam.

Tasty stuff - the lactose sugar and creaminess are present throughout, supporting the flavour profile without over sweetening it. Blueberry and white chocolate, with a fruity, lightly tart pomegranate note developing towards the back end; hints of vanilla ice cream and blueberry linger into a fruity, milk sugary finish. Hints of berry skin astringency linger beyond the fruity aftertaste. Medium-full in body, with moderately low carbonation that softly prickles the palate, resulting in a smooth texture that feels rather pleasing on the tongue, aiding the 'milkshake' vibe they were going for. I polished my glass off without a fuss, but in terms of drinkability, I think one glass would be plenty.

Final Grade: 3.93, a B+. Blue Buried Treasure was one of the more interesting blueberry beers that I've had in quite some time. One of the better Muskoka/Kawartha collaborative efforts to date, but ultimately not much more than a sweetened fruit beer with niche appeal - done darn well, though. The pale ale elements are tenuously noticeable, at best, but I suppose that's what happens when you fill a pale ale up with two fruits, lactose sugar, cocoa butter, etc. Worth a try, particularly if you're a fan of blueberry and/or milkshake beers in general.

Before reading the ingredient list, surprisingly pours a maroon colour with a nice pink head. Pleasant but undetermined fruit flavours on the nose. Creamy blueberry and pomegranate flavours on the taste, sweet and fruity but beer on the background. Lactose beers are sometimes too sweet for me, but this one is quite nice. Lots of antioxidants. Lol
