Nothing brings Mad Tom more joy than a hard day’s work, so sometimes he must be tricked into reluctant relaxation. While beachside, he’s dreamed up a Tropical IPA with juicy, tart calamansi. This tiny citrus packs big flavour and could convince Mad Tom to stay a little while longer on his unexpected holiday.

473 mL can from the LCBO, included in their 2023 IPA Mixer Pack. "Freshest before" Sep 27 2023 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a turbid, hazy apricot yellow colour, generating more than an inch of puffy, foamy white head that seeps away over the next five-plus minutes. An attractive coat of doily patterned lacing is left behind, in addition to a tight, frothy collar and thin cap. I'm getting mango, mandarin orange and pineapple on the nose, with a hint of something floral and perfumey.
Not bad at all; interesting flavour development over the course of the sip. Hints of bready, wheaty malt sweetness and fresh pineapple at first, with citrus eventually becoming dominant - I'm talking mandarin orange, lemon peel, lime-ade tartness and even some grapefruit. Mild to moderate floral, pithy bitterness comes next, lasting through the finish and lasting into the aftertaste. On the fuller side of medium-bodied, with light carbonation and a soft, juicy mouthfeel that works well here; solid drinkability, too.

Another tallboy, this one best before Dec 7 2023. Lucky me, I found another mixed pack that wasn't out of date, so I am going to give this review a very quick update. Looks great, with a big, puffy head and lots of lacing left over; the aroma is a little more potent too, with lemon and lime in addition to the notes from the original review. The flavours are more or less identical, though this can being fresher, the citrusy and tropical fruit aspects do have more of a 'pop'.
Compared to last year's Out of Office (with pineapple and guava), this Calamansi variant is basically a step sideways. The calamansi's combo of tart, floral & citrus is unique, adding some punch to what would otherwise be a mostly unremarkable hazy IPA. It's decent sampler pack filler that might be worth buying as a single.
Final Grade: 3.87, a B+

473ml can as part of the Muskoka seasonal 6 pack. Freshest by September 27, 2023. Served cold into a pint glass.
Appearance - Hazy golden orange brew with amber highlights. A dense and rocky finger and a half of white head is poured. Some streaky lacing left behind.
Smell - Tropical notes, sweet, mandarin oranges up front with some candied pineapple and strawberry in support.
Taste - Sweet and tropical, orange with some mango pineapple in flavor then a definitive tart calamansi punch. Light bitterness initial, but does ramp up a bit in the second half of the sip.
Mouthfeel - Medium-full bodied and quite well carbonated, maybe bordering on gassy. Finish is semi-dry.
Overall - Solid IPA, if not spectacular, I think it scored similar to Cold Shoulder (the other new beer in this IPA mix pack), but I think Out of Office with Calamansi is the easier to enjoy beer. Probably not something I'd seek out, given Muskoka's portfolio of other IPA's, but with that said, it's a fine addition to a mixed 6 pack.
