473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Muskoka's latest Survival Pack; dated Mar 20 2025 and served slightly chilled. This may be a revival of an old seasonal, their Summerweiss Tropical Wheat.

Pours a hazy golden-yellow colour, supporting two inches of soapy, foamy white head that seeps away within three or four minutes. Afterwards, a swath of arcing lace has been deposited onto the glass, with a thin collar holding its position. The passion fruit really pops on the nose, with the mango also hard to miss; hints of orange juice, pineapple and wheaty malts are also present.

It tastes pretty good, though the fruit purées obscure much of the underlying wheat ale. Mango and passion fruit jump out immediately, with hints of orange, pineapple, apples and kiwi also coming through; wheaty, bready pale malts provide some structural support. There's also a very faint wisp of clove spice; finishes with orange, mango, passion fruit and ripe banana, all of which dissipate into a fruity, wheaty aftertaste. Medium in body, with moderate carbonation that gently agitates the tongue. A refreshing and very quaffable brew.

Final Grade: 3.91, a B+. If you're looking to wet your whistle after suffering through a strenuous, sweaty slog in the summer sun, then Muskoka's Tropical Wheat will get the job done. It's tasty, but this fruited wheat ale is lacking in subtlety: the passion fruit and mango dictate the pace here, resulting in a brew that is 80% tropical and only 20% wheat ale. I can see why Muskoka brought this recipe back from the dead - there's no denying that it's a solid summer refresher - though frankly, I'd have preferred to see their original Summerweiss hefe.
