International Green Week, Berlin 2012: our second day and Hall 21a is where I came across the bar from Gommeraner Burgbrau: I had two of the beers on offer and had a chat with the brewer as I drank them. The second beer being this one, my first Roggen (beer made with Rye): this beer is only brewed in Jan each year.
Hazy look to this dark amber brew, good head of beige bubbles sat on top. The crown stayed with the beer and produced some good heavy lacing.
The aroma was of malt goodness, can’t claim to have found any Rye esters, but certainly more malty (bread and biscuits) than hoppy in the smell.
The nose and flavours seemed very similar, good malt base for the hops to lie beneath and although not a sweet beer; it wasn’t a hop bitter tasting brew either. Alcohol content nicely hidden and all in all: a pleasant beer.
